The story

The $10 was part of the polymer family that the ECCB launched in 2019. The reverse keeps the design of the earlier paper $10, with Admiralty Bay in St Vincent and the Grenadines, the island map and the Warspite. The bay is on Bequia, according to banknotes.com. The Warspite is an Anguillan trading schooner, and one source calls her the last of Anguilla’s wooden schooners. She carried people and goods between the islands, including salt from Anguilla’s ponds to Trinidad. She also served as supply ship for the Sombrero lighthouse. She was destroyed in Road Bay by a hurricane in 1984. One catalogue page wrongly calls her a Royal Navy battleship. The front portrait comes from a 1977 photograph by Peter Grugeon.

Front

Engraved portrait of Queen Elizabeth II wearing a tiara, pearl necklace, earring and sash (no name is printed, catalogues identify her), hanging magenta Fuchsia fulgens blossoms, green-throated carib hummingbird beside red-orange flowers, translucent orange fish behind the “10”, turtle in a triangular window, patterned triangular window, Eastern Caribbean Central Bank building in Basseterre (St Kitts), governor’s signature, text “Eastern Caribbean Central Bank”, “THESE NOTES ARE LEGAL TENDER FOR THE PAYMENT OF ANY AMOUNT” and “Governor”.
