The story

The 10 rufiyaa represents Maldivian culture and traditions, with a toddy tapper and a group of men and women playing boduberu; the drum on the back is based on the oldest drum displayed in the national museum. Boduberu (“big drum”) is the island nation’s traditional drum music and dance. The toddy tapper climbs the coconut palm, the national tree, to collect sap, a long-standing island livelihood. The designs were redrawn by De La Rue with the security features incorporated, and the note is part of the “Our culture” theme of the series.

Front

Toddy tapper climbing a coconut palm, bunch of coconuts, palm fronds, group of men and women seated playing and dancing to boduberu drums, clear window with a traditional black-and-white Maldivian ornamental motif, boduberu drum designs in the underprint, Dhivehi (Thaana) texts, Governor’s signature with printed name beneath, Hijri and Gregorian date line “1439 … 22 … 2018”, woven border pattern in purple.

Back

Large boduberu drum with bands of lacquer-style patterns in orange and brown, shown vertically (the oldest drum in the Maldives), clear window with the same ornamental motif, texts “TEN RUFIYAA”, “MALDIVES MONETARY AUTHORITY”, “10 MARCH 2018”, “MALDIVES”, small bracket-shaped mark, purple vertical patterned band.
