The story

Hong Kong’s other notes are issued by three commercial banks, but the HK$10 note is issued by the Government itself. Commercial banks stopped issuing 10-dollar notes after the denomination was replaced by a coin in 1995, and the Government issued its first 10-dollar note in 2002. The polymer version has circulated since 2007 alongside the paper notes and coins, introduced as a trial to see whether the public would accept polymer. The Bauhinia flower in the clear window is the emblem of the region and appears on its flag. The abstract patterns, ribbon and hexagonal horse device reflect the note’s modern, colourful design rather than a landmark, which is why this note has no portrait or building.

Front

Hexagonal registration device with a rearing blue horse, Bauhinia flower in the clear window at left, abstract geometric shapes in pink, cyan and purple, yellow diagonal bars, vertical iridescent bands at the left and right edges, Chinese and English texts "香港特別行政區政府 / GOVERNMENT OF THE HONG KONG SPECIAL ADMINISTRATIVE REGION", "香港法定貨幣 / LEGAL TENDER IN HONG KONG", "港幣拾元 / TEN HONG KONG DOLLARS", the numeral character "拾" in a hexagon, signature captions "財政司司長 FINANCIAL SECRETARY" and "金融管理專員 MONETARY AUTHORITY", date “1st JULY 2018 / 二零一八年七月一日”.

Back

Interlaced diamond and band knot pattern in blue and pink, looping yellow-orange ribbon, wavy pink line, hexagonal registration device with a faint horse image, Bauhinia flower in the clear window at right, texts "港幣拾元" and “TEN HONG KONG DOLLARS”, numeral character "拾" in a hexagon.
